I have to admit an affair this Valentine’s day. I was in Palo Alto over the weekend and found myself enamored with the restaurant scene. Now back in Boston I find myself longing for the the variety and quality of cuisine that I experienced in CA. French, Vietnamese, Italian, Korean, Brazilian, English pub, Japanese, wine bars all within walking distance from one another. You can imagine the quality of the wine lists.
Sadly I’m pretty down on the local scene now. Battling traffic, crowds, impossible parking, wine lists that feature Kendall Jackson.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Boston…at least I thought I did.
Hi Chad,
I understand where you’re coming from… but we’re dealing with two totally different worlds… from food influences to available ingredients and even city planning and layout. Don’t give up on us yet!
While I agree that we don’t have as much as the major cities on the West Coast or even NYC for that matter, considering the actual size of our city and the somewhat lack of ethnic diversity — as seen in many other major us cities — I think we have a decent set of restaurants between Boston and Cambridge. Maybe you also need to start exploring outside of the city a bit? I know that goes against your wish to have all these choices within a walkable distance, but maybe then you can come to appreciate the uniqueness and quaintness of all Boston neighborhood food scenes?
Hi Tammy,
I can partially attribute my groaning to seasonal affective disorder.
That said, the same day I posted that comment I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and diversity of food and wine at Tamasso (Rt 9 Southboro) as well their sister grocery store in the same complex. A fantastic selection of Italian wine and food. All the wins is also available at the grocery store, Panzano. Picked up some wonderful cheeses and wine for later while I was there.
Cheers
wine bars are great. my father installed a wine bar in my home and my wife also loved it ~.`
