In Hyde Park, the River Grille is under new ownership/management as of last week. I don’t know many details, just that the owner sold out (I was given the scoop by a chair on the Hyde Park Main Streets committee). Also in Hyde Park, still no word as to when Townsend’s or it’s accompanying coffee shop is going to open. Come on guys, we’re dying here!
Rumor has it that the Real Deal we know and love is opening a second location in Jamaica Plain. For those of you that don’t know, the owners of the Real Deal also own the Brookline Spa.
In West Roxbury, the big news is that Jeff Fournier, owner of 51 Lincoln, has taken over Vintage. Expect a new menu and a “Look and Feel” change to the interior. Goodbye steakhouse, good ‘ol boys feel!
Check out Boston Chef’s for a more extensive summary of Boston restaurant news.
We went to Vintage about a week after the change of ownership. It was kind of weird: Still felt like Vintage – dark and steakhouse-y, but you could already see changes in the menu – no more giant serving of mashed potatoes or clam chowder, but giant shrimp with their beady eyes still staring at you (I had to put soda glasses between them and the kidlet; she refused to look at the table otherwise).
Funny. I spoke to Jeff Fournier about what kind of change’s he planning on and when he’s going to make them and it sounded like it was going to be a gradual process. Up until not to long ago, the Vintage website didn’t even mention the change in hands. It does now. I think he’s going to redo the entire site too.
