A wee bit Irish

Happy St. Patty’s Day! I myself, am a wee bit Irish… 25% to be exact. My mother’s mother, Margaret Turner, brought some of her Irish upbringing into the traditional meals she cooked while my mother was growing up. Some of those dishes made it to my mom’s own list of recipes. Personally, when I think of good food, I do not think of Irish fare. I think my disgust with red meat probably affects this opinion.

Irish Foods I Like:

  1. Irish Soda Bread (which I wish my mom DID make)
  2. Potatoe Pancakes (my mom’s recipe) served with either apple sauce or grape jelly
  3. Irish Cheddar

Irish Foods I Hate:

  1. Corned Beef (I’m sure on the menu for tonight in my parent’s house)
  2. Boiled Cabbage
  3. Boiled Potatoes
  4. Irish Breakfasts
  5. Any other meal that includes any part of a dead cow or pig… or is boiled

Are there even any other traditional Irish meals out there???

Colcannon! Mashed potatoes with greens mixed in and lots of butter!

Traditionally it has bacon and a bit of onion or leek but you can use what you like in it.

In fact it would make good Tammy food right now!
