Povo.com — A new wiki-based guide to Boston!

Move over Yelp… there’s a new player in town!

With their formal launch this morning, “…Povo.com is a hyper-local online guide where you can find or share all kinds of information about the places where you live, work and play. From the everyday to the every once in a while, Povo helps answer all the questions about life in the Hub. Find the closest highly rated Brazilian restaurant with valet parking for less than $20. Discover a park where your kids and your dogs can play off leash. Povo is a neighborhood-by-neighborhood reference guide to your city created for and by people like you. Founded in 2007, Povo is privately held and funded. To find or share your information, visit www.povo.com…”

According to one of it’s Founders, Hasty Granberry, “…Unlike Yelp’s limited categorization, Povo’s open-ended tagging system allows users to make up their own extremely specific categories for businesses…” also, “…As a wiki, Povo provides the ability to form a collective opinion about a business/place, rather than Yelp’s cacophony of reviews….”

Here is a link to the formal press release that came out today. I have checked out the site and it seems very cool!
