1001 Foods You Must Taste Before You Die (1-10)

As mentioned in my previous post, I purchased this book at the New England Mobile Book Fair and I am completely in love with it.

So… my New Year’s Resolution for 2009 will be to TRY to post to my blog daily… and what better incentive than sharing these 1001 foods with you? The way I see it, if I post every day… that’s only 2 to 3 items I need to write about. That on top of my “normal blog posts” of course.

So… let’s begin. The first (of nine chapters) is Fruit.

  1. Elderberry Flower : Taste between a blackberry and a ripe plum, with strong bitterness
  2. Rose Petal: Little taste, used to infuse dishes with their perfume (Persian cuisine)
  3. Black Currant: Aroma is powerful and fragrant; used in Creme de Cassis and blended with blander ingredients
  4. Mountain Huckleberry: Taste similar to blueberries, but juicier with both sweet and tart notes
  5. Cranberry: Very firm with crunchy flesh; pungent, tart, acidic taste that requires sweetening
  6. Cloudberry: Resemble yellow raspberries; intense freshness, unique tangy flavor and juicy texture
  7. Wild Raspberry: Sweet, tart and highly aromatic; can be red, yellow white or shades in between
  8. Black Mulberry: Very sweet; comparable to a blackberry, but less seedy (one of my personal favorites)
  9. Boysenberry: Rich, sweet flavor with tart undertones; hints of blackberry, strawberry and raspberry
  10. Marionberry: Intense blackberry flavors; sweet and a little musky
