Detox — Day 2

I finished yesterday almost mastering a complete cleansing day, but slipped up a little around 8pm — by having a small glass of white wine. I got a headache almost immediately and it continued most of the night. I was able to sleep, but whenever I woke up (I’m a light sleeper) the headache was still there. Lesson learned…

Here is what the rest of my day looked like yesterday:

Mid-afternoon Snack:

Vegetable Juice (6 carrots, 2 celery stalks, 2 mini cucumbers & 1/4 onion)

The juice wasn’t bad… it tasted pretty good going down, but the after taste was of “violent burning onion”. I could only finish half of it. No more onion juice for me! I decided to supplement with 2 tbsp of Sabra Hummus with a handful of baby carrots instead (not on the detox I was following, but on others).

Dinner:

Large Salad containing: Chinese cabbage, water cress, fresh parsley, fresh cilantro, 1 whole avocado chopped, the remaining organic sprouted beans, lemon juice, avocado oil and sea salt and pepper.
— Yogi Fasting Tea with Agave Nectar

This wasn’t the prescribed dinner… but it was all I could muster an appetite for. The avocado was a perfect addition… it added some filling fat.

DAY 2

I woke this morning and actually felt really good. I opted for a juice breakfast… sort of what the plan called for, but I didn’t have the exact ingredients so I improvised.

Breakfast:

— Yogi Fasting Tea with Agave Nectar
— Fruit Juice (2 large Asian Pears, 1 Prickly Pear Fruit)

This was a delicious combination… light, super refreshing and a family favorite:

**By the way… the 4-yo does not normally look this hideous. He refuses to make “normal” faces for pictures!

By 11am I was downright hungry. Of course, this was probably because I stopped following the exact plan last night with dinner… or it could be that I just need more food to eat. 🙂 I decided to heat up a Morningstar Farms veggie sausage patty and just ate it plain. I figured the protein would help and it did. This was not the ideal substitution, as one… it’s fairly processed and two it was cooked. Oh well… I needed it.

Lunch:

This is where things really started to tank. We decided to go out to lunch. I wasn’t awful, but I seriously strayed from the plan. I was supposed to have vegetable juice at 10:15 am (4 celery stalks, 1 cucumber, 2 broccoli florets & 1 garlic BULB). Then at noon, a Juicy Detox Smoothie (6 carrots, 1 celery, 1 ripe avocado, 1 apple, squeeze of lemon juice and 8 basil leaves). Finally, at 2:15 the Vitality Juice (6 tomatoes, 6 carrots, 6 celery stalks, 1 red pepper, 1/2 beet, 1 cucumber, 1/4 onion, 1/4 green cabbage & 6 green beans). I did not have any of these. I just really needed something of substance… so I went with:

Real Deal Asian Chicken Salad (Romain lettuce, red onion, slivered almonds and wonton strips topped with grilled sesame chicken and served with a ginger dressing).

I kept the dressing on the side and only drizzled it on as I needed it… using maybe 1/4 total. It was definitely full of sugar and fat though. The chicken was delicious… but again, it didn’t exactly look fat free. The chicken was not on plan and neither were the wonton strips (which I’m certain contain wheat). The meal also came with half a pita bread though, and I am happy to report I did not eat any of it and tried to leave as many wonton strips as possible. I felt ridiculously satisfied while eating my lunch and ridiculously sick abut 10 minutes after I finished! So much that I thought I might throw up. I didn’t.

Mid-afternoon Snack:

— My own juice concoction (1 pink grapefruit, 1 mango & 1 fennel bulb)

This combo was actually quite good. I was hoping that it would help me get back on track… as grapefruit is often used as a fat flush, fennel is a popular food during detox and mango is supposed to support the digestive tract.

Right now as I type this, it is 4:55pm. I have an excruciating headache. I just broke down and took 2 Excedrin Migraine — which kills my caffeine-free weekend. Oh well.

What’s for dinner? Not sure yet… but I hope to stick to the remainder of the plan as much as possible. That means having some of the Detox Broth I made the other day, coupled with a Detox Sprout Salad. Check back tomorrow for the end results. I may also throw in a quick vegetable juice soon… so I don’t totally miss out on the benefits of all the juices I skipped today. I’m off to have a cup of Yogi Fasting Tea.

UPDATE (5:16pm)

Late-afternoon Snack:

— Vegetable Juice (2 celery stalks, 1/2 container grape tomatoes, 2 small carrots & 1 mini cucumber)
