Goodbye to Great Bay….

One of Boston’s great seafood restaurants is pulling the plug. Great Bay will be closing there doors this Saturday, May 30th. What a bummer… I received the press release yesterday:

In a joint statement, Hotel Commonwealth and restaurateurs Michael Schlow and Christopher Myers today announced the closing of Great Bay effective Saturday May 30th.

Hotel Commonwealth partner Terry Guiney said that under the leadership of Schlow and Myers, Great Bay has been a vital component of Hotel Commonwealth, which helped spur the revitalization of Kenmore Square upon its opening in 2003 and has built a well-earned reputation as a world-class lodging experience.

Myers said the changing economic climate sometimes forces difficult decisions. In this instance, he said, “the principals decided the best course of action was to close Great Bay rather than try to re-make it into something other than what it was designed to be—the best seafood restaurant in Boston. “

“I’m saddened at the closing of Great Bay, but this clearly was the wisest course of action,” said Guiney. “We are enormously grateful to Michael and Christopher, and to the entire staff, for their contributions. As Hotel Commonwealth moves on to even greater success, the legacy and impact of Great Bay will not be forgotten.”

Guiney said the hotel is in the process of examining future uses for the space.

I am honestly shocked. I thought they were doing a great business over there! Stupid economy…

The part that sucks the most is that I have NEVER been and heard great things about it! I may try and finagle my way in there this weekend. So sad…
