Just a quick update on Sunday’s Mitzvah. Took the 5-yo to Toys R Us to spend his birthday money. On the way in, we saw that the USMC was outside, Santa as well, collecting toys for the charitable foundation Toys for Tots.
What better way to do a good deed and teach the 5-yo about charity and giving, especially during this time of year. We stopped, but his picture taken with Santa and went looking for the perfect toy
Not knowing if we would be giving to a boy or girl, we decided to go with the game Sorry… one of my personal favorites as a child. In exchange, the 5-yo got his picture taken with Santa!
I felt inspired after that and decided that our 6th Annual Holiday Soiree (which we are hosting on 12/19) would also be a great opportunity to collect more toys… so we’ll be making (I’m hoping) a hefty donation of toys on 12/20. We offering our guest an opportunity to participate by bringing a new, unwrapped, gift to our house that night. Fingers crossed!
If you would like to contribute, there are toy drop-off locations all over the country. Most Toys R Us and Babies R Us are drop-off locations, but you can also find the location closest to you here.
On a side note… if you have a young child you would like to introduce to charity and giving, I found a great book this past weekend that I’d love to share with you. It’s called Three Cups and is written my Mark St. Germain. It’s a great book about giving… and the best part of all is that it’s based on a true story. Enjoy!
